26rh 26th April - ALAA – Championships
Whilst the weather was cold and blustery conditions at the ALAC Championships the competition was exceedingly hot. The event conducted at Bill Sewart Athletics Track – Nunawading on Saturday 26th April, saw Australia’s best Little Athletes contest a number of events to gain points for the coveted Trevor Billingham Shield for the best overall performer. In a truly exciting, keenly and closely contested event , Victoria stood firm and finally victorious to win the Shield by 2.5 pts from NSW. A fantastic effort by all our athletes and coaching staff a number who are well known in the EMR including Neville Harris, Rosemary Merrigan and Steve Cowburn, plus a number of other unsung heroes who have spent many hours of work supporting the team.
The EMR region was well represented in both the U13 and U15 teams with the entire U15 Multi Event Team being made up of EMR athletes, ironically both our female athletes were from Knox ( Brooke Stratton and Elle MacDonald ) and the males from Box Hill ( Seb Purcell and Tom Cornelius). All 4 athletes performed magnificently with Seb and Brooke taking Gold, Elle a Bronze and Tom a close 4th place allowing the Vics to win the Life Members Trophy for overall success in the Multi Event. Great job guys.
Our Under 13 team was also not without its outstanding performances, it’s a great achievement just to make the team but to win a medal in a National Competition is simply fantastic and something to be very proud of. The following athletes who represented Victoria are from the EMR Region. Tim O’Brien ( Gold - Shot put, Bronze –Relay ) - Knox Tayla Kearns ( Bronze – 400m ) - Knox Amelia Finnigan – Knox Kristy Stratton ( Gold – Triple Jump, Bronze – 80m H ) – Knox Jason Bielecki ( Gold – Discus, Javelin ) – Ringwood Zoe McWhinney – Collingwood Sean O"Neill - Collingwood Last but by no means least many EMR athletes, parents, family and friends volunteered their time to officiate on the day and to those people the ALAA and the VLAA is truly grateful, because without you the event cannot go ahead. I trust you all had as much fun and enjoyment on the day as I did The Editor

Congratulations and thanks to all the athletes, officials, VLAA, parents and families who made this another successful Championship.
